ROLE
As a Portfolio Operating Partner for Acquisition.com, you will help portfolio company executives craft strategy, implement best practices, and drive execution to grow their businesses and ultimately their enterprise value.
This role requires a mastery level of business acumen, a hunger for progress, and strong organizational skills and attention to detail. You must leverage your experience either as an MBA/Management Consultant or firsthand experience leading, operating, and ideally exiting a company of $15M+ in annual revenue.
You will act as the “quarterback” for our growing bench of functional subject matter experts (SMEs). As such, your knowledge of business will need to be “an inch deep and a mile wide,” as our portfolio partners will come to you first with their issues. For any issues that require a deeper knowledge of a specific function (e.g., marketing metrics, sales tactics, finance, customer success) you will be responsible for tasking SMEs to engage with portco leaders.
Your involvement with the Portfolio Companies starts from Day 1, as you’ll be responsible for collecting feedback gathered during the one month Diagnostic Phase that follows Due Diligence and contract signing and generating the strategic plan for growing the portfolio companies within your pod of ~15 companies. This strategic plan will be presented primarily by you to each new portfolio company live during the Implementation Phase Kickoff Day (typically 1-2x per month in Las Vegas)
This involvement continues with you being the primary point of contact for your pod through bi-weekly check in meetings, quarterly meetings, and at-hoc support on Slack.
The role requires someone with extreme persistence and candor as you will often be working to help inexperienced founders grow (not maintain, grow) their companies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own portfolio relationships and ensure their success in working with Acquisition.com
- Build long term strategic partnerships with portfolio CEO’s and their teams while holding them accountable to agreed upon priorities.
- Execute project management protocols, determining critical factors required to support the partner’s business objectives.
- Work closely with Managing Director of Portfolio Ops to ensure company promises are upheld and Business Management function represents Acquisition.com ‘Brand’
- Responsible for onboarding experience of each portfolio company, act as main POC and ensure the process is a 5 star experience
- Work closely with function SMEs
- Contribute to playbooks which can be applied across portfolio companies
- Act as a trusted advisor, subject matter expert and point of escalation for each portfolio company
RESULTS
- The PoP is ultimately responsible for the performance of the companies in their pod. They must be diligent about allocating their own and their SMEs bandwidth wisely to ensure the right assistance is given to pressing issues, be proactive about making recommendations that will result in company growth, and maintain constant situational awareness across the companies under their purview. In short, the performance of the pod is a direct reflection of the performance of the Portfolio Operating Partner.a
- Collects feedback gathered during Diagnostic Phase and generates & presents the strategic plan (including simple financial model and slide deck) for growing each new portfolio company live during Implementation Phase Kickoff Day (typically 1-2x per month in Las Vegas)
- Builds out business management playbooks for our portfolio companies
- Leads all customer facing initiatives in an organized manner with transparency and accountability (documented in Asana and Hubspot)
- Acts as the main POC to partners conducting training, hosting calls, and leading initiatives as needed.
- Every partner has a 5 star onboarding experience, we set the tone for what we expect from them
- Track KPIs to gain transparency into the health of each company
- Keep Managing Director of Portfolio Ops out of the day to day and assign specialized tasks as needed
- Hold partners accountable for initiatives and ensure companies are on proper track with growth and expansion
- Go generally ‘above and beyond’ for each partner
REQUIREMENTS
- EITHER top-tier MBA + top-tier management consulting experience OR 5+ years of experience leading (CEO/COO), scaling, and ideally exiting a company of $15M+ in annual revenue
- Experience in startup environment preferred
- Strong business acumen and confidence to teach others
- Confident and able to direct strong minded founders, as well as hold them accountable to the strategic plan set
- Demonstrated experience as a creative problem solver and ability to structure complex problems
- Dynamic leadership skills with the ability to take on opportunities for growth and inspire others to do the same
- Comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to a fast-changing environment
- Excellent organizational, project management, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated integrity and dedication to effective, efficient delivery of objectives.
- Proficiency with modeling and creating tracking tools in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets
- Proficiency with creating presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint/Google Slides
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work autonomously
- Willingness to travel 1-2x per month and to participate in remote meetings for stakeholders in other time zones
