Arrived at 17 with one bet from his parents. Three billion-dollar businesses later, here’s the story:
One bet.
- Age 10
Six years of 4AM tennis practice begin. The goal: a college in America.
- Age 17
Becomes a semi-pro at tennis. Sleeps 16 hours on a cardboard box to get a visa. Gets into college in the U.S. on one bet from his parents: that he would make it in America.
- Age 17
Works as a janitor to pay the bills during college.
- Then
Sells his first startup. Goes back to tennis.
From the court
to Wall Street.
- Age 23
Coaches Richard Branson, Bill Gates and other wealthy people on the planet.
- Then
Gets his MBA at Vanderbilt. In his words: “I do not recommend it today.” Meets his wife.
- Financial crisis
Does 39 interviews for a job at Goldman Sachs. Gets it.
The first
billion-dollar business.
- 2011
Leaves Goldman to build Teles Properties. His first child is on the way. The family lives on his wife’s salary for two years.
- 2017
10x the company: $300M to $3.4 billion in sales in 5 years. 700 agents. 22 offices.
- 2017
Sells the business to Douglas Elliman. The largest real estate acquisition in U.S. history at that time.
I wasn’t.
Real.
- Next
Joins Real, the publicly traded brokerage, as President.
- 30 months
Grows it from $200M to $1.2B. From 6,800 agents to 28,000.
- 2025
Rings the NASDAQ bell. “I felt nothing. I chased it for years. Then I saw what mattered. The people, not the bell.” Joins the board of directors.
Third time,
with his best friends.
- 2025
Joins Alex and Leila Hormozi at Acquisition.com as CEO and Managing Partner. Writes down ten reasons before saying yes.
- Today
Growing his third billion-dollar business with his best friends. Shares the playbook through Business School, The Next Billion and the 5AM Club.
More than a business conversation.
His longer interviews go past tactics: the visa line, the payroll email, the NASDAQ bell, and the people he builds with. Or, as he puts it:
“Not giving up is the most heroic thing you can do. Your starting point is just the first chapter, not the ending.”
